Timeless Reflection: A Martian Self-Portrait
In a greenhouse on Mars, a painter captures an ageless self-portrait, blending vibrant experimental paints with the surreal landscape of the red planet.
Prompt
The year is 2041. I’m out field testing some prototype paints specially formulated for conditions on the Martian surface, a little project I’ve been working on for the past year with a couple of my buddies from the material science lab who also happen to dabble in plein air painting. I discover the large polarized windows of one of the enormous greenhouse domes is the perfect mirror in which to see my reflection, and decide to do my first self portrait since moving to mars to ‘retire’. It takes multiple sessions over roughly two weeks, but I’m quite pleased with the result and with how the experimental paints perform. Strangely, I don’t appear to have aged a day in 20 years, but that’s probably due to eating well, getting a little exercise, staying hydrated, and the new anti-age treatments. ‘Self Portrait From the Future’ 18x30 inches, oil on aluminum
