Chaos and Conflict in Japan's Sengoku Jidai

The Sengoku Jidai (戦国時代), or Warring States period, was a chaotic era in Japanese history from roughly 1467 to 1600. It began with the Ōnin War (1467–1477), which destroyed the authority of the Ashikaga shogunate and fragmented Japan into dozens of independent domains ruled by rival daimyo (feudal lords).
